Author Marie McGann was born in a village in County Galway in the west of Ireland; she trained as a nurse before entering university to study dentistry. While at Galway university she met and soon married a Polish Battle of Britain pilot, moving to Crouch End in London. There she worked as a dentist for the Haringey Health Authority and became part of the Polish community, learning their language and singing their songs. After twenty-three years of marriage, she was amicably divorced and now still lives in Crouch End with her two cats and her wild garden. She is currently working on her second novel, Sparks Among the Stubble.
